Some recent exploration progress after VTEM surveys @ Exploration Geophysics
Newstrike Resources Ltd. announces that it has completed two diamond drill holes to evaluate VTEM airborne geophysical anomalies on the Horseshoe Lake property. The Horseshoe Lake property is comprised of 27 mining claims units contained in 4 unpatented mining claims.
The Horseshoe Lake property is located between the South Bay Mine (past producer) (9.5 km NNE) and the Arrow Lake deposit (5.0 km SW). The South Bay Mine produced 1.6 million tons of ore grading 14.7% zinc, 2.3% copper and 120 grams per ton silver. The Arrow Lake deposit contains an estimated NI 43-101 indicated resource of 2.02 million tonnes grading 5.92% zinc, 0.75 % copper, 21.1 grams per ton silver and 0.58 grams per ton gold.
The two hole diamond drill program (844 metres) targeted one modeled VTEM anomaly to be located within the known favorable horizon. Both drill holes intersected sulfide zones (pyrite > pyrrhotite minor sphalerite and chalcopyrite) that would explain the conductive anomaly.
Bonaparte Identifies Porphyry-Style Copper Mineralization at Hopper Property, Yukon. The Hopper property covers an area of 75 km. It hosts both skarn- and porphyry-style copper-gold-silver targets. Skarn mineralization dominantly comprises disseminated to semi-massive magnetite and chalcopyrite hosted in stacked limestone horizons, which are locally overlain by silicified limestone. The mineralized horizons are marked by strong VTEM conductors. The first of six diamond drill holes that tested the skarn mineralization returned an intercept of 0.43% copper and 3.35 g/t gold over 7.5 m.
- Six holes bottomed in significant mineralization, including;
- PDH-39, which returned 0.70% copper over the last 10.67 metres;
- PDH-13, which assayed 0.54% copper and 0.278 g/t gold over the last 3.05 metres.
The program explored for porphyry-style mineralization hosted within a granitic intrusion located in the central part of the property. Surface showings were discovered in this area by previous operators through bulldozer trenching, but they were never drill tested. A composite chip sample collected in one of these trenches by Mitsubishi Metal Corporation in 1968 reportedly averaged 0.52% copper over 45.72 m. The mineralization consists of chalcopyrite, pyrite, and pyrrhotite occurring as disseminations or within quartz-filled fractures that cut the host intrusion.
"Trevali" announces the staking of five additional claims (1,130 hectares) at its Ruttan copper-zinc property in Northern Manitoba bringing the total land position to 4,894 hectares (48.9 km. Staking was a follow-up to successful multi-disciplinary targeting exercise over the last 6 months including a thorough review and re-interpretation of a more recent (2008) detailed electro-magnetic (VTEM) survey, historic ground and airborne geophysical data, geology and geochemistry of the area. The study identified six quality multi-element (geophysics, geology, +/- geochemistry) targets on or close to the same stratigraphic horizon (Mine Sequence Unit) as the historic Ruttan Mine . The Ruttan copper-zinc deposit contains a NI 43-101 compliant inferred resource of copper and 640 million contained lbs of zinc) and remains open for expansion at depth and in the hanging and footwall zones (see Figure 2). Geologically large to giant Volcanic Massive Sulphide (VMS) deposits such as Ruttan rarely occur in isolation, they typically form camps or clusters of deposits -consequently based on targeting and prospectivity analysis conducted to date the Company believes that the Ruttan deposit and immediate underexplored region holds good to excellent exploration potential.
An airborne electromagnetic survey (VTEM) delineated 3.8 kilometers of conductors at Geneva that are within a distinct fold structure highlighted by the aeromagnetic results. Eldorado Resources, a predecessor to Cameco, intersected a graphitic fault zone that returned 0.22% U3O8 over 1.0 metres in the Geneva area during a 1984 drill program.
A gravity survey is planned early this winter to infill and extend gravity low targets identified by Purepoint in 2007. The three known gravity lows coincide with low apparent resistivity chimneys (LARC Principal, R. Koch, PDAC Convention 2007) in the sandstone that may represent zones of hydrothermal alteration. In 1995, Cameco ranked basement alteration of drill holes on their Rabbit Lake project, which once included a portion of the Red Willow project, using pathfinding elements (Pb, Ni, Cu, U, total clay and chlorite) and a hole from the Geneva area, RAD-17, returned the highest alteration score of the 366 drill holes ranked.
Three separate EM conductors have been interpreted from the VTEM survey results. The first is approximately 2 kilometers in length and is a moderate to strong, arcuate conductor known to represent graphitic sediments. All the EM profiles indicate that it has a plate source dipping at a shallow angle inward and conforms to basement geology (i.e. magnetic and gradient resistivity). The second and third conductors are both approximately 900 metres in length and roughly parallel to each other. The resistivity results from a gradient IP survey and the pole-dipole array IP survey also appear to be reflecting basement geology with pelitic sediments as resistivity lows that are locally faulted.
Midland Identifies Several New Gold Targets on its Casault Property Following a VTEM Survey.
Midland Exploration Inc. reports that an helicopter-borne electromagnetic ("VTEM") survey has recently been completed on its Casault Property and has led to the identification of several new anomalies never before detected by previous airborne geophysical surveys (Input). Therefore these new VTEM anomalies represent high-priority targets in search for new gold-bearing zones on the Casault Property. This property with strong gold potential covers more than 25 kilometres strike length along the extension of the Sunday Lake Deformation Zone. This major deformation zone hosts the giant Detour Lake gold deposit in Ontario, about 40 kilometres west of Casault, which contains an aggregate 16.45 million ounces of gold in measured and indicated resources based on a cut-off grade of 0.5 g/t Au, including 14.86 million ounces of gold in near-surface mineral reserves, and where commercial production is expected to begin in early 2013 (Source: NI 43-101 report by BBA for Detour Gold dated March 15, 2011).
This new VTEM survey, totalling about 400 line kilometres, was flown in September 2011 and was designed to detect new gold-bearing mineralized zones. The VTEM system is known for its exceptional depth penetration and provides a more accurate definition of conductive zones than conventional airborne systems. At Detour Lake, the original discovery of the main zone is directly attributed to the presence of an airborne electromagnetic anomaly (Detour 38 anomaly) detected during an Input survey in 1974. Preliminary results from Midland's VTEM survey indicate the presence of at least ten new high-priority drilling targets, that have never been tested before and that are in many cases, strategically located along the direct extensions of known gold-bearing structures in the vicinity. Also, many of these targets are locally directly associated with induced polarization anomalies and with structurally complex zones interpreted based on the helicopter-borne magnetic survey carried out by Midland in the spring of 2011.
On the Casault Property, at least three types of exploration targets were identified: the first type of target is associated with mafic rocks proximal to the Sunday Lake Deformation Zone (Detour Lake-type target), the second type of target is associated with major shear zones with pyrite-pyrrhotite mineralization and iron carbonate-sericite-silica alteration, whereas the third type is related to strongly mineralized sheared mafic intrusions similar to gold-bearing zones occurring on the Martinière property held by Balmoral Resources Ltd ("Balmoral") less than 5 kilometres east of the Casault Property. Recent drilling by Balmoral intersected 2.4 g/t Au over 72.0 metres, including a high-grade interval at 11.18 g/t Au over 12.0 metres (Source: Balmoral Resources Ltd press release dated March 2, 2011).
